I replaced rotors, pads, and front hubs on my fathers truck this weekend and the ABS light came on. I was extra scareful to not even touch the ABS sensor on the new hubs except to plug the sensor in.

He has a 2002 silverado 1500 hd truck. Any ideas? Seems major fail to have a bad sensor from the store but how can i pinpoint which one is bad, short of taking it into a dealer?

I believe 2002 was before they went to a CAN interface so a good ODBII reader might be able to read it. Most of the time you need a ABS specific code reader or GM's TechII.

You can trace the problem back to a specific wheel speed sensor with the correct code. The code should start with a C and should be reported by the EBCM.

These trucks are known for having problems with the ABS module

I'd verify whats wrong by taking it a repair shop for an estimate... if it's the module I'd recommend this link http://www.modulemaster.com/en/index.php

well heck, maybe my code reader will do it. I have an autotap that plugs into my laptop, so maybe.. just maybe.. it will pull the right code. Will it remove the ABS light though, or is that stored in memory. I know i can remove the CEL, but dont remember seeing anything about ABS codes/light.

EBCM.. that stands for ? Body Control Module?

A code reader like should be able to read it.

I know EFILive's tuning software can read almost any code that the TECHII can.

EBCM = Electronic Brake Control Module

You might be able to remove the code, but I'm not sure. The truck will go through a series of checks at certain intervals. Pulling the negative battery terminal should reset it though.

Just make sure the HVAC system is set to off, cool, and front vents. They sometimes can get out of sync when they lose power... but most complaints are on the 03 and up daul HVAC.
