any car/truck/suv VS Semi means you're dead.... i don't care what brand... Semi's with full loads have so much force behind them you can't possibly win.

Even school buses don't fair very well. Had an accident a few years ago in my area, one truck was making a right hand turn, so the school bus tried to go around partly in the other lane. Well a dump truck was coming the other way and it was quite a mess...

Was the school bus carrying kids?

It was a while ago, so I'm trying to remember. But I think it was carring a group of elderly people for a day outing.

Holy crap that's crazy!

Don't you think that they should of known that if they ran head on into a semi at high speeds that they would be in trouble!

fyi the v6 accord is 3,380 lbs, while the blazer is 3,500 lbs.... not much of a difference in a crash

there would be quite a difference.... only reason that much is left is because it's build on a solid frame... there would be nothing left of the accord, and the semi wouldn't be that messed up.

Analysis showed that the driver was weaving in and out of traffic on this busy two lane road, apparently in a hurry to get to wherever he was going. He was 22 and attending notre dame. Witnesses said that upon completing one previous pass he nearly ran another driver who was oncoming off the road as he was forced to swerve to avoid hitting this kid. A few seconds after that he attempted another pass, and hit, straight on at approximately 55mph, this semi carrying solid concrete.

The sad thing about all of this? Any area resident will tell you that trying to pass on this road is useless because inevitably you will end up stuck behind someone else 10ft. up the road anyways. There is absolutely no benefit 99% of the time to passing on this road. The kid lived in the area his whole life, he should have known better.

What a waste. Big hurry to go nowhere fast.

Immaturity. Shame he'll never have a chance to grow up now though.

I saw a big Class A RV get broadsided by a semi doing about 60 a couple of years ago. I looked like a bomb blew the RV into a thousand pieces. Just incredible.

Oh, I've seen worse in my days. One time driving back from chicago to ohio I saw an accident where a sedan crossed the median, hit a uhaul carrying an entire family, who went spun out and hit a 18-wheeler, who jacknifed and hit another 18-wheeler carrying a catepillar truck on his flatbed. Curious what it looked like? see the pictures. I think either 4 or 5 people died, mostly in the u-haul.

probably the worst fatal I ever covered occurred when a group of 4 20 year old were joyriding across some back country roads in ohio and decided to go hilltopping. (Cresting a hill at high speed to get airborne). Well, they got airborne all right, at 105mph and they went 15 feet in the air and hit 8 trees while they were up there. All four died instantly, and when I arrived there were still body part and brain matter all over the place. The car looked like it went though a scrap crusher. That's the stuff where you go home, puke, and then cry yourself to sleep.

Isn't unibody always safer than body on frame? More of the impact is absorbed by the entire frame and less is transferred to the cabin...correct?

Jeez! I've never seen HALF a car torn off before! There goes the notions that SUVs are the ultimate safety device on the road.

only if you crash one into a mini cooper.
