Chevy 454 truck...

edro

Ok, so I am getting my car worked on, and in the mean time, I am driving my dad's old beater truck. It is like a 1980 Chevy 454 something truck. It has dual exhaust and 2 gas tanks. It's a nice change after driving an Accord for a while 🙂

Anyways... how much gas should this thing be using? Last night it was close to Empty, so I put $10 in it ($1.60 gallon) = 6.25 gallons. I drove about 50 miles and it is almost empty again.

Does that sound about right?

That's like 8 miles / gallon. I think the gas gauge is just FUBAR.

What do you guys think?

Especially a 1980 454 - no fuel injection, and probably a 3 speed (assuming it's an automatic). You might want to consider getting rid of that sand, that would definitely help.

It's no surprise that a 1980's Chevy big block gets single digit MPGs. I'd actually say that's pretty good for such a large engine of that age.
