should be more like 3.9 seconds to 62 kph

and to all the people commenting on the Z06's ride compared to a 911 Turbo...who has actually spent considerable time in both?
The guys test driving and reviewing them.

I was actually referring to the fellow ATOTers spouting their personal opinions on cars that they seemed to have test driven. I guess this is due to the ease of getting time with $100k+ cars on a closed track.

Since it's fact and not opinion, it's not much different than you regurgitating stuff you learned in school.

It's not a subjective thing. The ride is harsh by pretty much any standard. It was engineered that way.

A lot of what they show is Tiff hamming it up for the camera. It makes for more exciting TV. Duh. If you looked at motorcycle magazine covers you would think most motorcycles spend all their time with the front wheel in the air. It's what sells.

I've ridden in a Lotus Exige on a track at speed, but that's neither here nor there ;)

Don't listen to blazin trav, he doesn't know squat about cars. That Z06 handles 1.03 G, very impressive

I'm waiting for the 2008 Nissan GT-R before I lay down my money on an expensive sports car. I just hope the reports of it costing $60-70k are a bit high, I'd rather not spend that much (I could afford it, but no one complains about getting something for less :p)

You're an idiot. Look at the line that was taken.

Do you not see how the handling and controled oversteer allows the car to dominate the corner? Sure you don't want to slide around a corner, it was done for effect just like they break the back end out on all their videos.

Even the announcer was expounding on how well it handled/cornered.

-edit- look at the front end, the wheels, the direction. there wasn't a whole lot of sliding going on there. Also look at the lap times.

Indeed.

Sliding is for effects. All you need to do it look at the fast lap times it can clock on the test circuits. It is a FAST car :)

IMO the HUD more than makes up for that. Plus I love that look, guess because I grew up in cars that had it.

This looks like a very nice car. Everyone loves to compare cars to the 911, Its a good benchmark I guess since its been around for so long, but who spends that kind of money on a car that is so bland. This corvette looks like a good option, Especially in Europe where the
roads are filled with Europeans.

As far as reviewers Tiff and Clarkson both keep me entertained.

Don't worry, with that kind of grammar I don't think you'll be owning anything near a 06 Z06 at this point in time. Have fun in your Pinto!

Whilst I usually dislike american cars, I must say that the C06 is a fantasic motor, and provides awesome 'bang for buck'. Build quality isn't mind blowing, but at least it's rapid!

Evaluating the ride is completely subjective.

And while this bbc show is entertaining, it's also fluff compared to some other sources.

Like Road and Track on the Z06..

"Along the way, the ride proves surprisingly compliant, not the sort of civility normally associated with such supercar performance. It's easily all-day tolerable and noticeably more user-friendly (outward visibility, ingress/egress, cabin temp, etc.) than its cross-town rival. It's comfortable enough for extended road trips.."

It's not subjective. A stiff suspension is a stiff suspension. A person's tolerance level is subjective.

American mags can't give very harsh reviews or the manufacturers will stop supplying them with cars. And they won't be fully critical, because America desperately needs to reinvent its car image. They'll overlook the negatives because of the positives.

And I'll take Jeremy Clarkson's or Tiff Needell's opinion over Guy Spangenberg's any day.

i'd trust tiff, not clarkson. he has too much a personal agenda to destroy american cars - see the thread about the "mustang GT convertible" that was in fact, a V6 convertible rental.

Point is, I'll trust either over "Guy Spangenberg".

To those saying that the C6 Z06's suspension is not stiff. Stock Evo spring rates are 180lbs rear and 225lbs front. And it's widely accepted that it's "stiff".

In the old C5 Z06, fronts were 525lbs, rears were 714lbs.

I think that, the spring rates in the new C6 Z06 are near 700-800lbs. I can't really find a good source to get that info.

I would still take the Porsche.

A WRX STI or a EVO with a little modding will beat a stock 911 carrera, but if you give people the option of a stock 911 or modded STI or EVO they will choose the 911 most of the time.

That being said, the corvette is good for the money, I just personally have never liked them.
