Wow, still has drum brakes??

Civic does too, dont see ppl complaining about honda using them.

I'd complain if I was interested in it, but the Civic is for lemmings 😉

its only rear drums anyways, they work too, and its typically the front wheels that require most braking force, unless your going really really fast in revers 😕.

also allows the cost to be that low.

hmm thats odd...in los angeles, CA car capital of the world i saw only one HHR this weekend traveling around.
No kidding, haven't seen one around here in NYC either. Plenty of posters for the HHR plastered all over though.

Drum brakes are still standard on many big trucks. Don't be quick to bash them, they can be very effective. I just prefer working on Disc brakes if given the choice. 😉

I am somewhat surprised that they don't offer an AWD model. Is one planned?

You try selling it for that. Go to Autotrader and look up how many 2005 xBs are out there for under $12,000.

Within 50 miles of me - 0. Lowest I saw was $14,000, most were $15-18,000. 2004 and 2005s.

New reign for ugliest car on the road is now held by Chevy then. Thats the only difference. I can't stand those 2.2 and 2.4 liter engines in most of the cars GM sells, they just feel much more underpowered then their Japanese counterparts. I know all you haters laugh at the Torque in the Japanese motors, but when pushed hard they at least feel like they give you more then adequate power. Neither of those engines are even close to adequate for such a big vehicle unless your a grandma.

But then again, with being in the "ugliest cars on the road" bracket, they might as well also be the most underpowered cars on the road.

I'm sorry but the ugliest car on the road has to either be the Honda Element of the Scion xb (at least the HHR actually looks like an automobile and not some fvcking toaster).

The PT Cruiser looks a lot better.

On this, we can agree. I actually don't think the HHR is THAT hideous (unlike Chevy's other wonder-buggy, the almost unbelievably awful SSR, or their cousin, the Asstek).

I really like the SSR and don't think the Aztek is bad looking.

Cliff's - Old people buy ugly cars that no one else wants.

Perhaps some of the 99.99% of SUV buyers that don't need to tow horse trailers are starting to realize a 30mpg wagon is a more practical choice than a 15mpg SUV.
