Chevrolet Camaro 2009: CONFIRMED

Well, that didn't take long. The din of the marching band has barely died down from today's press conference, but Edmunds Inside Line is already citing anonymous supplier sources as saying that the Camaro will put down long, inky stripes come 2009 on the strength of today's unveiling. But it wasn't just the espresso-soaked press pool's clamoring today that may have made the difference. Concurrently with the concept's unveiling in Detroit, General Motors pulled the sheet on its crimson alter-ego at the Los Angeles Motor Show to similarly good effect.

its official.

HELLS YEAH

That is a CONCEPT, and the article says MAY be in your driveway in 2009.....we will see. I would like to see the Camaro come back.

GM says the Camaro concept pays homage to the original 1967 Camaro with nods to aircraft like the YF-22 to make it "instantly recognizable as an all-new car."

I don't "think" Camaro by those :camera:s

Indeed, and I'm only 23.

On the topic of the new Camaro though...

The 05 Mustang is definitely a Mustang - No question whatsoever who its daddy is.

This Camaro though... Perhaps it's my relative infamiliarity with 1st gen Camaros but I don't see the lineage that strongly.

Nice car though, particularly with that kind of power + IRS.

I was sad to see the F-Body die, & I'll be quite happy to see the Camaro reborn (assuming they don't fvck it up).

Viper GTS

🙂

Yep, with a little bit of Cuda and a little bit Mustang styling thrown in.

And I agree it is gorgeous!

Absolutely.... The 68 camaro was a nice car, too... but i love the punch louvers on the 69.

🙂

Reread your previous post....you left off the other "o" so I didn't read it as "too" 😀

Cross your fingers because GM is going to need it. They are notorious for not having their fingers on the pulse of their target market and that is what killed the camaro last time around. By the time this car comes out (IF it does) it will have been 5+ years since they have been in that market and who even knows what it will be like in 3 years. They were loosing money on each V8 Camaro they were selling last time and the Mustang outsold Camaros/Firebirds 2:1 with less horsepower....the dynamic of that market hasn't changed much either so they better learn from their past mistakes. Like I said, we will see. I for one don't have much confidence in GMs management or engineers but I do hope they pull this off.

The fine print:

The real car will ride on 195/75/14 tires wrapped around stamped steel wheels. The interior will feature many misaligned panels of hard, varying colored plastics. The motor will be what ever raspy V-6 that Chevrolet can find laying around in the parts bin, and be rated at 200 HP.

It will feature the standard GM breadbox radio, and GM engineers are thinking of adding a CD filled with the sounds of many sqeaks and rattles to re-live that true F-body experience. The Dash that bounces up and down with every pothole will be a late year option, as will the console lid that cracks down the middle.

Chevrolet may add a Z-28/RS/SS type option, depending on how many dealers will promise to rape consumers by tacking on $10,000 dollars to the MSRP of the first few thousand to roll off the assembly line.

looks like a Camaro to me. it's a concept though, I doubt it'll look like that even if they do bring it back.
