Chess question.

just gotta protect the space that the piece is on to prevent the king from taking it (and going back into check on his own turn)
 
the king can capture the piece if it's not defended by anything...i.e. once you're in check you must get out of check, if you tried to take a bishop for example that was on the same diagonal as a queen, you'd still be in check and it's an illegal move. If you can't move anywhere out of check then that's 'mate.

Yes. I'm checking the king right now with my queen from away, but i'm sure the other player is going to bring the his queen up to protect the light of sight.

I could then move in on the queen but obviously the king could eat me.
 
if it's advantageous, like drawing his king out so he can't castle then trade queens : P

unless you're already down heavy material...in which case you're probably f'd : )
