I get the urge to play chess once in a while so I'm Looking for a free chess program to play against different levels against computer opponents (like 1 would be easy and 10 would be very difficult). Anyone got a free program for me? Humans take too long to play and quit a lot :p

Eat my balls.

Plenty of "trial" chess games out there it's, the free ones that are hard to find.

I was just messing with you. Should have included a smiley or something. Seriously though, just google it. There are a bunch of browser-based chess games out there that are user vs computer.

So you were just messing with me but then say to google again? :p

Alrighty I guess some more googling couldn't hurt. I played a program called K-chess long ago which I liked but it seems it's only a 15 day trial now.

Still haven't got a good answer yet :p

I'm being pretty lazy though, was just hoping someone would have a program in mind.

Why not do something like Red Hot Pawn? Yeah, its not vs computers, but you can play at your leisure vs lots of people around the world.

I haven't tried any of them, but I think you can find free ones at Sourceforge.net. You can even download the source code to play with. Which is nice if you want to make or modify your own version of a chess program.

It's also in Vista Business. You just have to go to add/remove Windows components to get to it.

If your budget could stretch to a few dollars you could maybe buy one of the chessmaster titles from amazon.com? Seems the 10th ed is $7 and earlier ones are as little as 50 cents+postage.

You must have a pretty good memory :p - I don't think I was even using this username back then.

I did find this game: http://www.learn4good.com/games/board/chess.htm - It's a little too easy though.

Battle Chess...that's the first computer chess game I ever played. Cool that you found that. Also I remember Star Wars chess. Mainly I'm looking for a chess game that has lots of different skill levels.

Well I didn't get any good recomendations for a chess program (i guess no one here knows any :p) but I did find Natwarlal - It's ok but doesn't let you adjust the difficulty.

I don't get it...it works with Winboard somehow? Neither of the programs mention working with one another or how they go together.
