Generally, what is the order of importance or the pieces. Or more specifically, try to list them in order of what you would give up to capture the other persons. Like I'd give up a pawn to capture a queen.

My best guess:
pawn
bishop
knight
rook
queen
king

bishops and knights can be interchangeable depending on your style and what you prefer to play with

for knights and bishops, it depends on your playing style/preference. imo knights are more powerful early-mid game, and bishops have greater value late-game. so eary on, if the choice is between the two, i'd lose the bishop. late game, i'd happily sacrifice a knight.

if anyone wants to play sometime on yahoo pm me

I thought knights were worth more points than bishops.

Errr, ummm... Actually what everyone said is wrong. Pawns are woth the most, then comes the bishops and knights, then the rooks and last is queen and king.

queen is more important than king to me since the king is kind of a chump that can move very much. i guess he's important since you have to protect him

Pawns CAN be worth a lot... :)

When I used to play back in elem/high school I liked taking my pawns to be rooks rather than queens if I managed to upgrade them. I always fvcked up and ended up with a stalemate it seemed when I used queens.

I gave up on Yahoo chess because too many peckerheads were using Chessmaster to bump up their ratings... what's the fun in that?
