Cheney Says New Heart Test, Faces `Pacemaker Plus' (Update1)
By Holly Rosenkrantz and Ryan Donmoyer

Washington, June 29 (Bloomberg) -- Vice President Dick Cheney said he's going to George Washington University Hospital tomorrow for a new heart test and possible implant of a ``pacemaker plus'' that would regulate his heartbeat.

Cheney said his doctors recommended the new test and possible procedure after detecting ``some minor, very short periods of rapid heart rate'' during a test about two weeks ago.

``I look on this as an insurance policy,'' Cheney told reporters today. ``It may never be needed.'' Cheney said he expects to return home tomorrow afternoon and be at work on Monday. He said he has no doubts that he is healthy enough to continue work as vice president.

Cheney said the procedure is unrelated to a blockage in a heart artery in early March that led doctors to insert a stent to clear the blockage.

Asked whether his heart condition would affect his chances for serving as vice president in a second Bush administration, Cheney said that would be President George W. Bush's call. ``It's not something he's asked me about,'' Cheney said. ``If I'm in shape to do it, and my health permits, I'd be perfectly happy to serve.''

He should just get a Heart Transplant. Maybe they could make a deal with China and harvest one over there for him. He may want to get one here from another Republican but word has it that they are all heartless:)
