Earlier today I read old news saying that Cheney's old company, Halliburton, was selected as a prime contractor for building the Guantanamo prison camp in Cuba where suspected terrorists are held was "combatants".

Halliburton and its subsidiaries was run by Cheney for several years shortly after he left office as Defense Sec. in the Bush I administration. During that period, Halliburton was awarded many lucrative contracts to rebuild the ruined Iraqi and Kuwaiti oil fields.

It is shocking to me, however, that Cheney would go so far to select his old company to build a seriously questionable prison camp. I mean... out of the thousands of construction companies in the U.S. WHY did he pick the one he had closest ties to when building a f-ing concentration camp?? Favoritism is one thing, BLATANT Nepotism is another.

If anyone can answer this question and change my mind that Cheney is the devil, plse do so.

My friend, you have the intellect of a bullion cube.

P.S. - Unless Cheney is/was related to Halliburton, it wasn't nepotism. (Dictionary.com is your friend.)
nep·o·tism
n. Favoritism shown or patronage granted to relatives, as in business.

A Halliburton company got the contract however said company subcontracted out to the company known as the worlds best at putting out oil well fires, Boots & Coots.

Oh, I know what the dictionary definition of nepotism is. It might not be literal nepotism, but its "nepotism" in the sense that its favoritism for a company he is "related" to.

Uhhhh...... no. Nepotism is what nepotism is. This is favortism. Just because you like the way that nepotism sounds does not make it nepotism.

You still have not explained why Cheney is TRULY EVIL or has no sense of common decency because of this former business tie.

Osama bin Laden is truly evil.
Pol Pot was truly evil.
Saddam Hussein is truly evil.
Joseph Stalin was truly evil.
Adolf Hitler is truly evil (and living in Argentina with JFK -who is the Diet Coke of evil).
Carrot Top is truly evil.

Please don't cheapen words...

Here - as I previously posted:

LordSegan,

Brown & Root, a Halliburton subsidiary, won the contract. Brown & Root has many of the contracts to build prisons in Texas.

Even assuming this is pork, how do you justify saying that Mr. Cheney is a TRULY EVIL man (or has at least ZERO sense of common moral decency.) ? That seems a bit nuts. Did you miss your medication today? Shall I call an orderly?

Apparently not in the case of Halliburton-- From below link: "The US army said it gave the main Iraqi oilwell firefighting contract to a unit of Halliburton Co., a firm once run by Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites), without any bidding."

The Army Corps of Engineers awarded the firefighting contract without any bids to the company that had created the plan for fighting the fires in the first place :Q

I hate to burst your bubble but....

HELLOOO...how the hell do you think big business operates?

This is the way of the world, it's not just with the goverment but with everything that the coporations do.

You scratch my back I'll scratch yours. That is how things have operated since the begining of time....deal with it.

i heard that Halliburton also put out the fires in the first Gulf War..

oh no! this is an outrage! dick cheney is TRULY EVIL because he *might* have given his former company an edge, even though they would have been chosen regardlessly! Let's forget about torture in Iraq or whatever, this is a lot worse!

I really hope that these clowns don't get re-elected! Every time I see them on T.V., I just cringe! They are really putting us on the spot in the world theatre, and it is not looking very good for us. They have no foreign policy whatsoever, and Bitching at Russia for some parts is not helping any either. Russia is still a powerfull country, don't ever think that they are weak. China is a powerfull force also, granted they really don't have any hardware that is worth a damn, but they have manpower.

The world gets smaller everyday, and we are going to eventually need help from other nations. It does us no good to alienate ourselves!

And don't come back and say " we have a 40 nation coalition, we are okay". The coalition of the willing is made up of every broke government in the world, or someone who owes us money. Can we expect Kyrgyzstan to give us a hand

It's all about connections, back scratchin' and Quid Pro Quo at that level. Don't like it? Stop electing these folk.

Haliburton has been a major player in Gov. Contracts for a LONG LONG TIME. This is part of the reason they hired Cheney. Govmentn's bread and butter is govment contracts rarely go to the lowest bidder especially when security is involved. There are many factors to be considered. Haliburtons has spent alot of money to put themselves in a postion to get goverment contract and has done the job well when they have.

TO give you an idea of how goverment contracts work when I worked on a goverment contract there were two bidders for a simulator contract. One bid was 40% higher than the other and they won. Because they already had the staff in place to do the job and had held that contract for 10 years. They had done a really good job. They won Even though their price was consiuderably higher.

Sometimes you pay alittle more to get quality and so does the government.
