Cheetah 15K.3 Scsi drive with u160/u320 card, does it matter?

IS there any point in buying a u320 over a u160? And is there any real reason to deviate from Adaptec controllers besides for the sake of the price? Do they just make the best, most reliable?

I was about to buy a 15k.3 and an LSI u160 card btw...

No idea about the controllers (haven't tried SCSI yet myself, but am hoping to as soon as I get enough money again since I depleted my computer upgrade fund recently), but a single 15k.3 drive will not saturate a u160 SCSI bus.

i just bought a seagate cheetah x15 drive the other day with a LSI u160 card and its an extremely nice setup...

this was my first scsi setup and before this i had a 40 gig 7200 rpm drive...

Can you describe your experiences so far? Starting from the installation, bootup times, loading games/apps.

Unless you have multiple drives (3 or more) and you are accessing them at the same time, 320 will be no faster than 160.

No, doesn't really matter how many drives you have, if you don't have a motherboard with at least 32bit 66MHz or 64bit 33MHz PCI slots, you won't even be able to saturate a U160 card.

In fact, Xbit Labs did some testing of the U160 and U320 variants of the X15-36LP and found that both drives actually perform faster (generally) on the U160 card in their test. Link to review/tests If they had used the same controller for both then it would have been more scientific, but whatever.
