Cheesesteak anyone???

Served with a small bottle of champagne, Barclay Prime's cheesesteak is made of sliced Kobe beef, melted Taleggio cheese, shaved truffles, sauteed foie gras, caramelized onions and heirloom shaved tomatoes on a homemade brioche roll brushed with truffle butter and squirted with homemade mustard.
Sounds awesome, but anyone from Philadelphia who orders one should have their balls cut off...

I have made a point of trying "philadelphia cheesteaks" from all over the world, as a philadelphia area native myself, I must stay that this sounds amazingly stupid

Normally, I'd try something like this, if for no other reason than to make fun of it... but.... er um..... not on my dime lol

There gonna loose big on this. Everyone who comes to philly goes to Pats or Gino's. The big stars, sports players etc. Bad idea steven

I'm waiting for their Rocky Mountain Oyster Philly Cheesteak to come out. Heck, I'd pay at least $150 for it.

I never thought I would refer to a cheesesteak as "Gay", but that is about the gayest cheesesteak I've ever heard of.

Cheesesteak isn't gay. However, saying it as "beefsteak" sure is. 🙂

I don't see how pats or ginos compares to this cheesesteak at all.

What do you mean? Pat's is obviously quite a bit cheaper, amazingly tasty and has history dating back to the 30's. When I think cheesesteak, I think Pat's. (Ok, maybe every once and awhile I think Gino's but that's only because I know that I keep my back to the place when I"m ordering at Pat's. 🙂 )

Do you see the ingredients of this particular cheesesteak?

"Barclay Prime owner Stephen Starr admits the haute cheesesteak is a marketing ploy for his steakhouse,..."
Looks like it was a good idea to me, got him a spot on CNN. He uses the other stuff all the time at his steakhouse, so it's not like this costs him anything.

Absolutely did, it's just not a cheesesteak to me. To me, a cheesesteak is supposed to be simple, I don't want something "...made of sliced Kobe beef, melted Taleggio cheese, shaved truffles, sauteed foie gras, caramelized onions and heirloom shaved tomatoes on a homemade brioche roll brushed with truffle butter and squirted with homemade mustard." I just want my cheesesteak. I guess it's just a personal thing. 🙂

I'm a Philly native, and I know a good cheese steak better than some of the pretenders in this thread who are saying Pats or Geno's. These days, those places are for the tourists. Geno's (right by Pat's and gets more traffic, homeslice), doesn't even use all beef -- says beef AMD pork right on their sign).

Pat's claim to have invented the cheesesteak is marketing BS, btw. The one thing those places have going for them is the constant traffic, it means the rolls are fresh and anyone who knows will tell you that the a good fresh chewy Italian roll is THE most important ingredient. But cheese whiz? Please! People use American, but a REAL down home Italian cheese steak is made with provolone. Cheese Whiz is for easily infuenced losers. And a good c/s MUST have fried onions -- to me, they are key.

The best cheese steaks are not found in any of those tired tourist traps, anyway. They are found in small, scattered family run Italian sandwich joints, and the good ones get scarcer every year.

We have always had good pizza here, too, so I never thought I'd see Pizza Hut and Pappa John's and such take over, but, go figure. In the aggregate, consumers are idiot lemmings.

You guys touting Pats and Genos probably think Lee's Hoagies are great, too (NOT). Cooked salami instead of Genoa? Don't even get me started! The slide to the abyss has begun. Many places now ask you if you want oil/vinegar or mayonnaise. Mayonnaise! AIEEEEEE, what is this, Altoona? NO, it's still PHIL-I-A, chief.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that that yuppie cheesesteak sounds fanatastic. As long as someone else is buying, I'll take two. People who think that a combo of Kobe beef, truffles, foie gras and Taleggio cheese wouldn't be an orgasm for their taste buds and so is "gay" are the same pimple farmers who think the Miata is a girl's car and love their Pinto.

/End rant.

STUF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have no clue what your talking about. Im not comparing small storeso on the italian market and pats cause i have had good cheese steaks there. The point in Pats and Geneo's do so much business. I mean as i said sports players and all come to go there. There not gonna sit down for a $100 cheesesteak. Also Very few people would pay $100 for a cheesesteak and i dont care if its served on a gold plate. The fact is people go to nice restaurants for a steak duck salmon. NOT A CHEESTEAK
