I like to use real hot, strong onions on my burgers. The best are the mid sized cooking (yellow) onions.
I am a burger master.nicely done. I actually had a great red onion the other day. I never had a red onion that strong and tasty. I like the way you think about burgers.

The tomato version came about because it was the poor man's substitute for some of the meat in the patty. Not chicken, not goat meat, not whatever other meat they might have had plenty of but tomato. A vegetable.
