I try to post a link in the Hot Deals section, supermediastoredotcom is a "banned word"? I understand trying to FORCE people to buy only from AT Forum sponsors like Newegg, but this is fookin ridiculous.

IT'S CALLED COMPETITION AND CENSORING LINKS IS PURE BS. This is NOT pr0n, it's internet stores. Why bother having a Hot Deals section when AT only condones buying from paying sponsors? I'm on the edge of canning this forum from my favorites after 7 years of dedication! :| :| :| :|

I suggest changing the Hot Deals forum name to Hot NewEgg Deals or Hot Club IT Deals....how's that? Since AT doesn't allow links to anyone else, let's just call it for what it is. :|

I usually don't moderate the Hot Deals Forum but I can honestly say this is the first I've heard of it. Maybe it's a problem with the upgrade or maybe it's something that will be changed when the new guidlines for posting are decided upon in the very near future.

if they go to try and censor the links people can post in the HD forum you will see a mazz exodus from HD on this site and prob the whole forum in general

Um, a little searching online suggests that the store in question may not be a good vendor. I suspect we will find a mod chime in that either a) they did it to protect users from some of the 'free shipping' scams this company has run or b) a spammer showed up and this was a reminant from that. Overall, they seem slimey and I have to presume the block was to protect users.

Sadly, you would think anyone who's been here 7 years would do the same google search and come to the same conclusion. It would be weird for anyone who's been here for 7 years to just presume this is censorship and that there wasn't a reason for it. It would be bs for anyone here 7 years to point out how fookin ridiculous this is until after learning why. And I can't imagine anyone here 7 years wanting to rename HD based on one isolated issue without even getting the full story.

There are a couple of these media sites that are on the banned list because of their previous spamming of the forum. The OP needs to settle down and not jump to conclusions about the reasons they are on the banned list.

Yes, you people are the end users but we still have rules for the forums and it clearly states no spamming and it's also a "no dealers" forum. Do you really want to wade through all the spam posts to get to the genuine hot deals?

Oh please. If you work for a vendor, create an account, and go spamming in HD. Your gonna get your account deleted and the url your spamming blocked. Blocking the URL helps prevent them from just creating a new account and spamming again.

I would like to thank the anandtech mods for their efforts. If you think about it, they are walking a fine line. It is to our benefit that they kill postings about deals from suspect companies. But they have to do it behind the scenes, no public comments on who/why, otherwise these companies would go after anandtech for slander.

Well, from a discussion I had about the situation with the 'powers that be' (he removed a very questionable quote which involved pointing a gun at another member, namely me) this isn't normal for him. As such I can only conclude that either a) A good guy had a bad day and learned his lesson or b) He really really hates Dennis Miller.
