<snip>

Well, there’s a bit more to this story, according to Jay Foster, the superintendent of the school system – and the man who swore out those warrants.

Four years ago the high school graduation ceremony in Mississippi’s Five Star City resembled an episode of “The Jerry Springer Show.”

“That’s what we felt like our graduation ceremony had been turned into,” Foster told me. “It was who can be the loudest – who can take the attention away from the kids the most.”

That was Foster’s first year on the job, and what happened during that ceremony left an indelible mark.

“There was yelling and catcalling and people would get up and leave while we were calling out students’ names,” he said. “A family came up to me afterwards and said they had enjoyed their 12 years here but it was a shame that their last impression of Senatobia High School was graduation. They didn’t even get to see their daughter or hear their daughter because of all the noise and the way people acted.”

The district implemented a number of policies and procedures meant to restore order and decorum to high school graduation.

“We feel an obligation to all our graduates – not just the ones whose parents decide they want to excessively celebrate,” Foster said.

But that still did not stop a group of four individuals from disrupting this year’s festivities.

“They would get up and move around the coliseum and holler out – knowing someone was coming to get them – but basically they were saying to us, ‘There’s nothing you can do – we’re going to disrupt it anyway,’” he said. “It was a blatant disregard for authority.”

Some folks have tried to make the issue about race, but Foster pointed out that two of the individuals are black and two are white.

Foster has been castigated in both the mainstream media and the conservative media. But he said he believes he did the right thing – and I guarantee you that folks will think about misbehaving in the future.

“I am compelled to do what I think is right for all our graduates,” he said. “That’s part of what’s wrong with our society today. Everything is about ‘me.’ ‘I have a right to disrupt if it’s for my child.’

“But you are not thinking about the other 102 kids sitting there. They have every right to be heard and seen and recognized.”

Remember, folks … It’s a high school graduation ceremony – not a professional wrestling match. So stop acting the fool.

Lol, really?

What kind of idiot brings cowbells to a graduation ceremony?

The same kind of idiots who knew what the rules were to this graduation and decided to get up and meander around during their hooting and hollering so it would be more difficult to locate them.

The more I read of this situation and the history of this school's graduation issues, the more I agree with what was done. Don't like the rules set out by the school, don't come to the friggin graduation.

I just went to a family friends 8th grade graduation. I wish they had the same rules.
I couldn't hear half the names because people were rude. It was like a contest on who can get the loudest and most obnoxious. I was shocked nobody broke out a air horn.

Anyone who agrees with that tin pot dictator is human garbage.

Have kids? Hope so, and I hope your graduation experience is not ruined by a bunch of self-serving buffoons who can't control themselves in public.

Now they have issued arrest warrants. WTF... yes what they did was wrong, yes they should have been escorted out, but arrest warrants, wow, fine, fine use of tax payer monies right there.
Fucking idiots all the way around in this.

Be proud of your kids every single day they are in school, no need to hinge it all on the graduation ceremony and then walk away angry at random people instead happy for and proud of your children. That way no one can ruin your day

Last thing I want are a few dudes wasting tax payer money in a cell for yelling. Escort them out and be done with it.

Best way to go is to have ushers that immediately pull them out.

WTF kind of bullshit is that? How can you charge someone with disturbing the peace just for cheering for their loved one at an inappropriate time. Both the pigs and the principle are wrong as hell on this one, ask the lady to leave and be done with it.

That's hilarious. I think the idea of arresting someone for yelling at a graduation is absurd (and possibly Unconstitutional), but the image of this obnoxious woman being cuffed after intentionally violating the rule ("I understood as a consequence I was going to be escorted out of the graduation") is pretty amusing.

Sounds like charges weren't filed until long after the graduation was over. The principle (or whoever) was quoted as "Yes I went and signed papers to press charges" or some shit like that. Not an exact quote, I didn't feel like opening the article again.

Why would my childs graduation be ruined? Will she not graduate due to said self serving buffoons or something?

How happy would you be at the graduation ceremony if you could not hear your kid's name being announced because of some overzealous buffoon?

looks like you fell for the version that the mainstream media has feed you (assuming there is any credibility to the the principal's statements about previous years ceremonies looking like a Jerry Springer show)....

What is the purpose of the ceremony then?

Just hand out the certificates on the last day of school then.

The ceremony is to acknowledge to all the accomplishment of ALL of the students.

To prevent any one student from being acknowledged is disrespectful of the process. Noise at graduation should not be a contest.
