Checksum error, please help

I was checking a power supply in a celeron 400Mhz machine, and the chords from my power supply got stuck in the heat sink fan so the fan didn't work. The temperature alarm eventually sounded, and I shut down the computer (successfully), and when I discovered and fixed the problem, I booted up again and the I recieved a checksum error. What has happened and how can I fix it? A good explanation is very appreciated.

what has likely happened, is somehow your bios has become in one way or another corrupted. now what you can try doing is resetting the cmos on the bios, hopefully that will fix it. if not, your problems may lie deeper within the chip. i dont know if checksum error can occur from a faulty cpu, but like you said you had the heat warning, so the possiblilty remains you burnt your chip. althought you would probably get a different error message for that.

I had the same problem with my Epox 8KTA3 once . . . flashing the BIOS fixed the issue.

my friend had a checksum the other day. flashing didn't work for him. you *might* need a new bios chip (i think they're about $11)

Check your ram, and see if it seated all the way down.
Clear CMOS with a jumper and reset bios.

The one time I got a checksome error I think it said push F2 to load default values. Does yours say anything other than Checksum error?
