From Windows Explorer, select Folder Options - there's a checkbox in there somewhere. A change in Windows Explorer affects IE as well.

Make sure you have just one Windows Explorer window open. Also, make sure you don't have any IE windows open. Go to the View menu in Explorer and make certain that Status Bar has a checkmark beside it. No go into the Tools menu, choose Folder Options, go to the View tab of that dialog, click on the Apply to All Folders button. OK your way out of the dialog. Quit Explorer. Now start it up again, and try starting up an IE windows, too. Both should be showing a status bar at the bottom.

Doh! Forgot the part about applying the settings to all windows. Thanks c0rv1d43. In my defense, I was posting from a Linux box at the time. :)

Hey, cleverhandle! Posting from a Linux box while visualizing a Windows XP GUI, eh? That's kind of like fantasizing about the blonde while you're in bed with the redhead. You've gotta watch out, or you'll slip up and get into deep doo-doo!
