Asus A8V deluxe, X800XL video card, 4 sticks of 512mb ram.
Turn on computer, bios is stuck on checking nvram msg. Can't hit a key to get into bios or anything, non responsive. This just starting happening a few days ago.
I changed the CMOS battery a few times and reset the CMOS, disconnected any non-essential usb cables, tried both plug and play settings in the bios, tried disconnecting power from certain drives to see if it was a power supply issue, etc.
The one thing that seemed to work sometimes was unseating a ram module and booting up. And again, that only worked about 1/5 tries. And when I did get it to boot, I'd quickly shut it off, put the ram back in, and it'd still work. It's as if when I could get it to work, I was "granted" a few boots to work with. After 2 or 3 reboots, game over and back to the nvram msg. I tried combinations of 1, 2, 3 and 4 ram modules, and that didn't seem to have an effect. I'm really stumped.
Am I dealing with a bad mobo?
