checking laptop LCD response time/brightness etc

hi, i am planning to buy an lcd monitor (dell 1905fp or something). i don't really know what lcd specifications look like in practice. so i was wondering if there was a program or some other way to identify response rate, contrast ratio, brightness etc of my laptop lcd. that way, at least i have something meaningful to compare lcd specs to.
