Checking HD for problems

Basically, I think my HDD is messed up physically. Is there anyway to check it's "status" through some software? thanks guys

Yeah, visit your HDD manufacturer's website (Maxtor, Seagate, Western Digital or whomever) and they'll have a utility you download which makes a bootable diagnostic floppy or even a bootable CD .ISO. Run the quick test, then the thorough one if necessary. HTH

If your using XP open command prompt in accesories then type chkdsk /f
