are there any small programs that just quickly tell you what the video / audio compression used in an AVI is?

vdub didn't work for some reason.

gunna try this avicodec program that I just found, sounds perfect
Just use Gspot already. Its free.

Thats's what Clint would use. 😉

I have Gspot but use VDub for this purpose (haven't extracted/installed gspot at all, actually). When you say it didn't work, what exactly do you mean? You need to open up the video file in VDub, then go to file -> file information, fyi.
