I think that after you called her a 'jap girl' things would fizzle out anyway so we should all just save our $20 on that one. :D

Ok, my lame and somewhat pathetic take on online personals. Followed by a heart warming 'how we met' story.

Yahoo personals were ok when they were free...although yes, it was roughly 85% cattle who often had children, then 10% decent looking girls who had children and the remaining 5% were either not looking for anyone like me or just plain didn't respond. (probably because what they were really looking for and what they said they wanted were two different things) Since match.com bought them out, like I think they have with virtually all personal ad services the numbers have dwindled and there was no way I was paying for that.

That said...

I met my girl off a match.com ad...there were few girls I was interested in and I refused to pay for the service. They had a '7 day free trial' about 3 years ago though which I signed up for. Any girl who looked good in a pic or even sounded half way decent received a generic email from me during that 7 day trail. Match.com uses some double blind thing on emails so that you can't talk to them outside of the match.com email system. Supposely its to 'protect you' but really its just a way to force you to continue paying their monthly fee.

So I emailed like 40 girls that may or may not have been dateable. I got like 5 responses. My current girlfriend said she had just started dating some one but wouldn't mind getting to know me as friends in her first email. I said sure, and of course lost interest in that after about a week of emailing. I kept talking with like 2 other girls via email but they didn't go anywhere either. 7 day trial ended, I stopped bothering with that.

So fast forward a little over a year later. I am just getting over a painful re-dump. (Girl wanted me back only to dump me even faster than the first time we went out. Hard lesson learned: burn bridges and keep them burned.) I'm going through all those old emails and looking at yahoo personals which were at the time still free. I was talking with this one girl but it turned out she had just lied in her ad and actually had a kid. (LOL, oh man I was out of there.) I notice in one of my old emails from my current girl had accidentally left a reply history in one of her messages. The reply history contained her real email address.

I sent a 'hey, whats up...I lost touch with you.' message to her. Her boyfriend had dumped her like 3-4 months ago. We chat. Blah, blah...I call her. Etc, etc...we meet. She is very cute, even though I had not seen any pictures of her at that point. We really hit it off in person...etc, etc we're together now. She's a great chick, I'm going to marry her. So....sometimes it doesn't suck I guess.

I hope for the love of god I never have to use a yahoo's personal in order to meet a girlfriend. I admit, I did take my friends girlfriend about 3 years ago. I also met a girl before that becasue she messaged me about a webpage i designed on our local ISP's free space...but that was high school. I know it gets tough to meet new people outside of school, or the workplace, but theres something completely weird about trying to sell yourself like a piece of cattle to anyone willing to invest their time and money in you.

Lash, you're just sad yourself. Noone wants to spend their life alone and who cares if they put something on the net, I mean its none of your business. Everyone deserves happiness and just because they choose the internet as their medium of meeting people doesn't make them wierd or anything. Maybe to you, but then again there are those judgmental types who think that everyone who doesnt act precisely within a set of guidelines are wierd, strange, freaky, or just plain crazy.

Three words for you.

Get some decency

Also, I might add I met my wife on this messaging program. She came from Texas, I'm in Ohio. She moved up here to visit and ended up staying long term. We do great, have lots of fun, we've got a 1 year old son and are just living our lives greatly. I wouldnt have chose anyone else for my partner

I am actually signed up with yahoo person over in Taiwan. I wanted to find my elementary school friends and make some Chinese friends so I can practice my Chinese and my ability to type Chinese. So far I have been enjoying talking to the people I met on yahoo. It only cost me $15 for the 6 months. So not that bad for me to make some new friends.

Hey, its the net buddy. You dont have to take personal offense to anything that I say. Dont think thet I am weird, strange, freaky, or just plain crazy for thinking that the people who put themselves on those sites am weird, strange, freaky, or just plain crazy. You said it yourself, who cares if they put something on the net, I mean its none of your business. Its called free speech, and whether or not you want to hear it doesnt really matter to me.

Four words for you.

Stop being a hypocrite.

It's almost sad to say that I went to school with the first 2 pages of the results I saw... and pretty much every one of them are lying about something.

That's actually pretty funny.

Well I decided to open my mind up to possibilities and did a search for girls within 50 miles of my location. Yikes 1000 search results, but hey im within 40 miles of detroit...so how about 15. 100 something results, and just as i thought...farming community, and plenty of cows for everyone. One girl in there http://personals.yahoo.com/us/preview/preview?search=1&searchtype=1&searchmode=1&kws=0&searchinternal=1&position=10&adid=personals-1047483139-004907

Attractive, seems to be compatible with me at least. She looks like high maintenance, and I dont usually go for blondes....

There maybe more attractive girls in there, but nothing caught my eye. One looked alright, but her religious convictions threw me off. Religion can make or break a relationship.

BTW, 18-25 zip 48455 here and 15 miles radius if anyone cares to look
