Been wondering why most of my vents are getting very little air flow even though the dampers are turned up. I realized one of my vents is fairly straight and I can see far if I stick a cam down. This is what I found:

The damper handle indicates that it is totally open but it got loose over time, and check out that huge dust bunny.

I'm breathing this crap! Bet most of em are like this. Time to get someone to come clean it all out. I could do it myself but by the time I buy the equipment it might cost more then getting a pro.

Haha doubt it would of built up that quick but speaking of that, I should probably change the filter.

I think that's not cat hair... it IS a cat. lol

Can't have cat hair without a cat, therefore cats are the root of all evils associated with cat hair.

I had the same thing happen.
Our one bedroom was always cold and had poor airflow out of the vent.

The damper was closed but it said it was open.

If it's stuck in your vent how do you suppose you are breathing it exactly? I highly doubt what is stuck there is providing a constant flow of dust crap for you to breath in, no more than what was in your air in the first place.

Oh that's right, you're for hire.

I'm sure every now and then some particles may get loosened up. DIY cleaning can actually make things worse sometimes though as it will knock it loose and at first you'll get more stuff come out, but overall it should improve. If I had a fish line I'd shove it down there to see if I can loosen it up then just be ready with the shop vac to catch the most I can. No fish line though. Idealy a fish line with a x10 cam would be quite a lot of fun right now. Go to places never seen before... :p

Actually, if you rub the cat vigorously to build up a static charge, then send it running through the ducts, you can clean them out. :)

I should patent that idea!

Problem is the ducts will reduce the electrostatic potential to near zero at the first contact as ductwork is grounded. ;)

What if it accumulates so much dust that your cat gets stuck? What are you gonna send now?

She swallowed the dog to catch the cat
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wiggled and jiggled and tickled inside her
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly
I don't know why she swallowed the fly
Perhaps she'll die.
