Description
The Polyphemus Moth is one of our biggest moths, growing up to a 5 1/2 inch wingspan. It has brownish-yellow wings with a black and white, wavy line on each. It has a small, mostly yellow eyespot on each forewing (front wings), and larger blue, black, and yellow eyespots on the hindwings. Underneath, the moths' wings look like dead leaves.

It's a Death's Head Moth. There might be a Buffalo Bill at your workplace...

But really, it's an Emperor Gum Moth

Since he's not in Australia or New Zealand, I'm going to have to say that it's probably not an Emperor Gum Moth.

You would be correct as we found this guy here in Dallas...he didn't seem like he was going to be alive much longer...barely moving when we found him in the bushes outside...he is back outside, but not sure if he will even last the day...

What, no mouth to moth resusitation?!

Lordy it's big. If something like that landed on me I'd scream and dance like a petrified little girl and it would traumatize me for hours.

how long are you performing for? should we try the veal??? 🙂

Big insects like those are exactly the reason I refuse to move further south than Chicago. The cicadas were bad enough this year.

He'll be back, he's got to use the restroom to take a pupae.

God I hate big moths. Seriously, I have a crippling fear of them. I bet a Luna moth flew into my face when I was an infant or something.
