I don't have an Android device to play around with right now.

For an email account using IMAP protocol, there must be a way to set the specific "special folders" on the server. Where can you go to do that? Coming up empty when I search Google for this. I even tried searching specific popular Android devices like:

"galaxy s5 imap sent drafts (deleted OR trash)"

Just to explain what I'm talking about, many IMAP clients create their own redundant folders when appropriate folders already exist on the server. You can usually specify which special folders to use for which purpose. For example, with Google-hosted mail, "special" folders that are used by the server cannot be deleted or renamed. Google groups them under "[Gmail]/" to indicate that they are special. If an IMAP client doesn't move a messages to the correct "[Gmail]/Trash" folder when deleting, the server doesn't interpret the action as "delete" (and it still appears in [Gmail]/All Mail and anywhere else it existed).

I'm so confused. If you add an email account onto an Android device, it should show all of the "special" folders that are on the server. You shouldn't have to "set" anything.

I think what he wants to know is how to set the default trash/sent/draft/etc folders to specific folders on the server, so it will be consistent throughout all his gadgets and mail clients. I once had three sent/trash/draft folders on my IMAP server because I was too lazy setting the default after switching clients and accessing my emails from multiple devices.

Anyway, I can't help because I don't have any IMAP accounts right now. Only GMails and Office 365 on my phone right now.

Btw, why use IMAP if you're connecting to a Google-hosted account? Why not just use the GMail app?

I think K-9 supports manually setting the folders. I'm using the AOSP email client right now or I'd check.

Google ended the Google Apps for ISPs platform, so I'm dealing with thousands of users that need to enter new non-Google IMAP settings on every single device.

Do most Android phones and tablets have the AOSP email client? If so, that's the one I'm interested in.
