Check SMART status of RAID drives?

I'm using the Asus Formula Maximus, and I have two drives in RAID 0. This seems like a question a billion people must have asked, but how do you check the SMART status these drives?

you have to do it through the RAID controller. If it is possible to do so, there should be options to view it or enable it in the RAID firmware.

last i tried.. i couldn't get any Smart to work with raid so i gave it up all together. there was no performance gain from it anyway and too risky in losing any data you have on the array

The controller would have to pass along SMART data, I don't think any integrated raid controllers can do that.

Notification of RAID array and drive health is a big problem. Lots of lower-end RAID controllers can't handle SMART data. And their email notification doesn't work because they can't handle SMTP Authentication. Sometimes, I wish that RAID would just go away. :( It vastly complicates life.

Is this an intel chipset motherboard? If so, you should be able to install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. It will show you if the drives are good, and warn you if one fails. Still not the same as SMART monitoring, but at least you will know if a drive fails in a RAID-1.

What controller were you using? That's interesting. I've had no problems on Areca controllers.
