Still have to grout and paint. I built everything there. Mantle from scratch, seat, cut all marble and rope. Polishing marble is a bitch!!! 200-400-600-800-1200-1600 then youre done.

Bath room deal got called off as you know but the Mrs. always got something new.

I have a good time doing it. Would not want to make it a full time job or anything but it's fun as a one off. I mean once you lean how to use a miter saw ad compound cuts "thrill" goes away quick then it becomes work.

Excellently done stonework. I feel like the woodwork is unfinished though (not to criticize).

The color's a bit off. I would start over with something slightly lighter.

I agree. The marble looks good and the woodwork looks good. But together, it seems to be missing something. I'm no design expert, but what about two fluted boards (maybe 4-6" wide) going up the sides from the mantle to the crown molding. Make the fireplace extend visually into the ceiling. Plus, it'll make a frame for whatever you put in the middle.

There is a 2" cap on top of crown I have not yet painted, maybe it will look better after that... I wanted to put fluted columns in but my wife did not like it.

Looks nice, sounds like polishing marble is even worse than doing drywall seams!!! Drywall takes maybe 3-4 coats/sanding ... but this ... 6! yikes.
