Damn... damn....

(but how well does it cool? :p)

Quoting from page 25, post #489:

at stock speed (2.4Ghz) at idle CPU is ~30C, Running several programs
including transcoding an AVI file, extracting a large RAR file, watching a video, downloading
a torrent, firefox with several tabs open etc, the temp was around 40C and motherboard
temp varied between 25C~30C. There was no combination of ordinary programs that could
take the CPU to 100%. Bumping up the CPU to 3Ghz gave an idle temp slightly higher at
~34C and running the same combination of programs resulted in ~45C. So it will be left at
3Ghz. I wanted to see the temps for the CPU at 100%, so two instances of Orthos were run
and the result here is ~55C for the CPU. So all those temps are fine for everyday running.
Ambient temp during all this was 26C.

Of course, that was before he made the side covers. Whether or not that has any impact on the cooling, I don't know.

This pic showing the motherboard cover & ducting is just ....aw heck...words can't describe it!

People with that much talent make me sick!

Yep that puppy is nice. A good imaginative design.

I'm sure I couldn't do any better, but that is just plain ugly to me. I'm sure he worked very hard on it, and many seem to like it, but I wouldn't be lining up to get one, if they went into mass production.

This. It's not really my style, but damn, it's some impressive work.

The wood does kind of contrast the metal machine look of the internal case... would've been just as awesome if he stuck to an all metal design.

I'm just impressed at the work he did to achieve what he did. Mostly hand tools, jigs made specifically for this project, etc.
The only thing he didn't do was lathe work (feet) & the anodizing.
A very talented & skilled individual!

You know I read the thread and I must have missed the part about the feet, because I was wondering how he made them. Now I know--he didn't.

Yeah that is a really neat case. Compact design too. And all that aluminum.

I happened upon this thread while look at another case mod site because I am also thinking of building my own case. Mine currently is a Gateway small tower and I think I would prefer the box type case. Is that SFF case? I like that style better.

I'm a designer at a custom fab shop (big steel though).. We have some amazing people on the shop floor, but this guy, to do what he does by hand, is just nuts. Truly a level of care and patience not seen much anymore. :D

The one in the OP isn't finished yet. When it is I will update this thread.
The case mod you posted is very nice too.

No, don't misunderstand me, I've followed that thread religiously since you posted it. The craftsmanship is amazing and it is a thing of beauty. I just like the old throwback theme of the Zenith radio. I love the beautiful woodwork and can only dream of being able to work like that.
