*edit* Take this post for example:

"if there actually WAS a track in the GTA maybe there wouldnt be so much street racing.... i cant believe this crap, evenyone ******* all day focken long about street racing.. build a focken track and them maybe we wont have this stupid problem... if your hanging out somewhere, and someone asks you to race what are you gonna do? drive down to cayuga? lol right.. i'm not a street racer fan but i mean people have no where to turn... build a track, and street racing will be reduced to almost nothing."

Seriously this street racing is pissing me off.

I love wat the Police did at MOSPORT. For the Americans, here's the story.

The Toronto Police have formed a Organization Against Street Racing (wht hte help of some sponsor such as Honda Canada and Bridgestone Tires). Anyway, the cops held a drag racing event at Mosport, which is a big international raceway in Toronto (and similar to Watkins Glen and Laguna Seca in prestige...I mean the American LeMans races on this very track). Anyway, they closed off a straight part of the track and turned into a 1/8mi drag strip (since there is no real drag strip in Mosport...its a road race place with a smaller track for driver development as well).

The cost was only $20CDN, which allowed you to race for hte entire day. And they even offered free towing home if your car broke down. Now that is an awesome deal, since towing is VERY expensive. As is racing on Mosport itself. I know people who pay $250CDN to road race at Mosport for a day.

This was an AWESOME gesture by the police here in Toronto to allow for legalized racing in a safe place. I can't imagine how much money was subsidized to allow the public to race for only $20. The best part is that Mosport isn't too far from the core of Toronto. From my place its around 20mins, from downtown TO is around 30, and from the west-end its about 40mins (by highway).

The other 1/4mi drag strips are about 1.5 to 2.5 hours away from Toronto and charge around $20-$35 dollars to race.

I went to St. Thomas once!! No one told me how far it was!!! I was following my friend..and was like...are we there yet..are we there yet!! Unfornately I wasn't feeling well that day..and as soon as i got there, I felt like going home since I was nasious and had a headache. Only made a few runs, it was pretty bad weather since it rained aerlier and was a pain to hook up...plus humid as well. On the bright side, the cops were there racing...and I beat them!! :D :D First time I could say I get to race a cop and win!...without going to jail! :D

I was thinking about this type of thing the other day and came upon an idea. Given the proliferation of street racing and the fact that it's probably not going to be really controlled, how about paving certain streets off main roads that lead nowhere and unofficially not policing them? So you have a place for street racers to go without endangering the rest of traffic.

Probably never going to be a reality for a variety of reasons but it would probably in the long run help more than it would hurt.
