Lovely stuff. I'm seriously contemplating pulling my entire 401k out under the "financial hardship" category, take the penalty hit, and pay off my CC to help my effort to return to school.

With my employer's matching I haven't lost anything yet (of my own money anyway), but it's getting close.

Everything of mine is down just as much. It is to the point that I am going to wait it out before selling all my stocks off. They are almost 1/2 the price they was when I bought them.

you are supposed to buy when its low, not sell

if a person had dollar cost averaged into the last prolonged bear market ('73-'75, link) during their working years, and was retiring now (even after the recent drops), you would be up about 900%

if you are young , leave your money in and buy more/keep dollar cost averaging and hold it for the next 20-30 years and you will do just fine

damn right FOBOT....

can't touch this money until I am 59.5 anyways :) I figure I have about another 36 years to make a decent return.

On the other hadn, my non-qualified money is sitting in cash these days until I figure out an intelligent move to make in this stock market...
