Cyberian,

MINI was a division of Rover (Rover included Rover, Land Rover, MG, and MINI). When BMW got rid of Rover to the Pheonix Group and Land Rover to Ford, they kept MINI.

I just read in Autoweek (or some weekly car magazine) in the grocery store that the new Mini uses the rear suspension straight out of the current 3-Series:p That baby is gonna handle like a dream :D

<< Bah, you don't like the old Minis??? Those things are awesome >>

Erm well, quite frankley NO.

I live in the UK and have to put up with seeing them everywhere.

They're a novelty everywhere else in the world (Japan) but here they are just considered crap, but they do have a cult following still.

They Rust BADLY
They're SLOW
Need I say they are small?!
They're only driven by female students.

Good points, they handle like a Go-Kart, well the new one doesn't, sposed to be a bit of a crock, sloppy handling, slow.

163Bhp from a 1600 is pretty good, but compare it to things like 1400cc Renault 5 GT Turbos which have been tuned to excess of 300Bhp and Escort RS Turbos (1.6ltr). I don't think you have either in the states. Not to mention the car every 20 year old male dreams about at night, the Escort Cosworth Drooooool:D

Thanks.
That all got quite confusing to me many years ago when BMC merged with Leyland to become BLMC. Jaguar was part of that conglomerate at one time also, I believe.

Isn't the MINI Supercharged?

The S Model is supercharged, so 163hp from a 1.6 isn't that great... The Civic Si makes 160 hp or 200hp in euro spec type R models!
Also this car is about 12ft, which might not suit us in the US (you'd be surrounded by big ass suv's and die in a head on or side collision).
Probably great for asia and europe where the roads are narrow and twisty though and people know how to drive ;)

The original was 10' long and rode on 10" wheels. :)
