i'm noticing quite a few new builds opting for the barracuda sata2 drives....

congrats on a fine purchase. I just wish conroe prices were as cheap in Canada 🙂

For the amount of money you spent on it, a quality power supply would have been well worth the extra cost. Best protect your investment from a crappy PSU taking out all your parts.

As for the Quadro FX, I know nothing about those cards, but otherwise, not bad.

You think the PSU is crappy? It seemed to get decent reviews on newegg.

Also, the Quadro FX is an entry level digital content creation card which i need for my 3D work.

Enermax, Seasonic, OCZ, PCP&C, Forton/Sparkle for PSUs.

Everything else great, but what are you gonna use 4GB of RAM for?

Unless you plan on overclocking the hell out of it, use the stock fan, and the $$$ you have towards the aftermarket one and get a better PS.

See the link in my sig for excellent PS reviews.

I like the Corsairs.

Newegg is marking them up considerably (They are paying ~100.00), so you may be able to find it cheaper.

Yes - and unless you are running WinXP64 or something like that - 4GB may actually slow down your rig.

I do a lot of photoshopping, especially on large files.

I can return the PSU if I want from newegg right? It hasn't shipped yet, but I cannot make changes to the order since its in step 3.

I'm not looking for speed really, but quantity. I want to overclock it a little, nothing too crazy though.

Again - 4GB can and will run slower than 2 or 3GB, unless you are running a true 64bit OS, then you have the driver woes that comes with it.

I'll make a thread about it when it happens, which I'm sure it will since It's been over 2 years since i built a PC. 😀 Right now I'm going to stick with XP until we have the budget for a new OS.

Anyways, You're recommending the Corsair HX Series 520 W? You look like you know your power supplies so i'll take your word for it. what about this one on NE?

I don't claim to be a pro - I base my opinions on what I absorb here, from the likes of JonnyGURU, Galvanized Yankee, et al

From what I remember, there were some true wattage issues with the Coolermasters. For that kind of $$$, I will again say to get the Corsair. It's made by Seasonic, and at what ZZF is selling it for, it's a great deal.

Although some Coolermaster units are made by Acbel Polytech - a good ODM.

Right on. WEll I will take your word for it.

As for the memory, again, I sometimes work on files in the range of 1-3 Gigs in size, and the general rule of thumb is to have 2x the amount of RAM for the size of the file you're working on. I'm not a gamer, so the milliseconds in speed is not a big issue, but the seconds I lose in manipulating a file are.
