Rice, yes...but still nice. How much did all the mods cost you, $$$ and time-wise?

Wow that looks really awesome!!! I like how it matches your dvd player. I tried doing the thing with the xbox logo in the top and putting led's behind it but it didnt turn out very well. I tried scraping the green paint off with dremel, and it looks like sh1t cause i scratched it up!!!

Time wise, probably about a month, but that was off and on. Figuring out the wiring and soldering were the most frustrating parts.

I didnt really keep up with the pricing. Here is whats in it.
16 LEDS
2 switchs
120 gig 7200 rpm maxtor hard drive
A new fan.
X2 mod chip.
Im sure im forgetting some stuff.

its cool but you didnt really do anything that exceptional. i mean i am telling you a job well done, but everything except the controller port lights is elementary. ill post a pic of the top of my xbox if i can find it...took me friggin forever to get this done, but its well worth it, and you seem like the type of person who would enjoy the project...

edit: ok i cant find it. its a sort of window that you can see the dvd, but it isnt just a generic hole with black components in the background. you can make it symmetrical and form the shape of an X with some more LEDs...looks sweet as hell.

some other things you could consider modding:

power switch on the controller (medium difficulty)
stronger rumble packs (easy)
increase the RAM (very difficult)

btw, i just noticed you were matching it with your DVD player (i think) and that looks totally badass. nice job.

However I didnt solder the wire on the back of the board. I just looked at where that point was on the top of the board and solderd it there.

For the HDD LED, I solder the LED to wire 39 (I think, whichever wire is IDE activity) of the IDE cable.

To get the LEDs in the little slot in the front, there is a little bump that on the inside that I sanded down with the dremel until it showed through. I then took a CD jewl case and cut a square out of and hot glued it to the xbox, along with the LED.

Yeah, I probably could have done more, but by the time I was finished with all that stuff, I started to get sick of doing it.

EDIT: The paint is "Truck and SUV Paint" that I picked up up at advanced auto parts.

Oh and by the way, I did do the power switch on the controller. Ultimate laziness.

careful, its not actually a HDD activity signal. if you put too much load on the end of your HDD activity circuit, you could cause problems with the drives ability to send/receive info.

i'd mod mine, but it's dying .. piece of junk. my ps2 is a much better piece of hardware ... not as powerful, but better quality.

Here is where I got my fan

It does take some work getting the fan to fit though. You have to sand some stuff down with the dremel. Right now its just as loud as the original but thats because I have it at full blast. I can turn it down which makes it alot quieter, but also hotter. Gotta keep that 120 gig hard drive cool!
