Check out my new watch (pics + video)!

I did a ton of research before deciding on a watch to buy, and discovered that Seiko only markets its automatic watches in Japan - the only 'autos' Americans can get are quartz Kinetics, and they're quite expensive.

So I went over to eBay and discovered that there's a glut of Seiko Automatics (think no batteries and no quartz, powered by movement from your wrist) from Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, etc., and they're dirt cheap. The Seiko 5 is a world-renowned watch with a tough-as-nails 21-jewel movement developed in-house by Seiko, and there are literally hundreds of designs of 5s out there.

So I bid on and won this watch - total, including shipping from Japan, was $47! A steal, if you ask me, especially since I was considering ordering a Kinetic for over $200! I might just buy two more just to have some for different occasions (sports, school, dressy).

Okay, pics (and video of the sweeping second hand):

Enjoy! Oh, and many thanks to Don_Vito for his guidance and advice as the cheap watch guru of ATOT!

Nice watch! A little plain for my tastes, but nice watch nonetheless :)
Eventually I'll get a Seiko 5 with roman numerals, but I really wanted one with arabic numbers so that I could just glance at it while walking/typing and not have to figure out what hour it was. This is my first nice watch, so I wanted to start basic.

I had one of those self winding watches in high school 30 years ago.

They were kinda thick, back then.

<Cheech> I'm not into time man"<Cheech>

But seriously, I buy cheap watches. The way I burn through them, a spendy watch would be a waste.

Is there any problem with counterfits?
The seller I bought from has 99.7% positive feedbacks out of 12,500 or so. As long as it's a reputable business, I don't think counterfeits are an issue. the seller's name is pokemonyu.

Yup, brand new. No box, no manual, but protective decals and the Seiko tag were all on the watch. I'm guessing it's grey market or it's simply overstock that Seiko liquidates to dealers.

I got a Seiko Titanium Chronograph back in 1998.... It's been a GREAT watch. The band makes it extremely light. One of my friends from "the street" appraised it for me..... He said, "I give you $18 dollars for it" I think that was purely because of the light weight....

It was $630 back in 1998...I'm not sure what those run now. Probably cheaper. :p

I don't know what is more pathetic... you taking a movie of your watch... or me downloading it and watching it.
