Thankfully I no longer have to do this stuff for a living, I left the graphic design world. Now I just do it for fun.Originally posted by: Kaido

I discovered how powerful Illustrator was last semester when we used it for a couple months in one of my graphics classes. I'm not too great at it yet, but man, it's got so much capability and potential. Mastering vector graphics is a wholllleeee different ballgame than raster graphics![]()

Illustrator is one of the packages I really want to master this year. It'll be great for my 3D modeling; vector graphics on models such as robots, stock cars, etc. will be tons easier to create and modify.

Yeah, I've been debating jobs. I'd like to go into graphics, but I really enjoy it as a hobby and don't want to ruin that. I think I'm going to go into the computer field, because it's something I enjoy but something I wouldn't mind working at every day.
I was in graphics for 8 years. It's a rough, demanding job.Originally posted by: Kaido

BTW I've always wondered at your sig file with all the different emoticons, does that represent your many changing emotional states?

After 2.5 years into a Graphic Design major I realized that well, it sucks. I'm sorry but I don't want to be making logos for the rest of my life, but then again I don't know what the hell I'm going to do with my life.![]()

First of all, you have to learn to be comfortable with your creativity being stifled. You won't be allowed to do what YOU think is nice, you'll have to do what the art director thinks is nice (until you earn his/her artistic respect, usually not easy to do too quickly). Secondly, you'll have to get used to ridiculous deadlines. You'll have to be able to work in a highly pressurized enviroment. I finally said the heck with it, and now my job has nothing to do with a computer at all and I am much happier.![]()
Good luck getting a job with Pixar. You'll probably only have to beat out about 50,000 other people.Originally posted by: Kaido

yuck. my dream job would be to work at Pixar, but really, I have no idea what a job there is like. I'd imagine it'd be so specific that I'd be stuck modeling one specific piece of one specific model or something inane like that. I'm not 100% sure what I want to do either, other than I like computers and I like art. If my publishing company takes off, that'll be great because I'll be an entrepreneur and I'll have lots of different things to do, but if not, I dunno.
