You know maybe a preferential voting system would be better than the 'first past the post' system, if there's going to be more than 2 candidates.

That way a conservative who votes for Buchanen would not be helping Gore by default. Just as by a lefty voting for Nader they wouldn't be helping Bush by default, which is way the system works now.

If people could just rank their preferences (of the 9 candidates) from 1st to 9th, then if a lefty gives his 1st preference to Nader, they could still give their 2nd preference to Gore on the of chance that Nader doesnt get amongst the top 2 in results.
