Check for TRIM

I got a stupid question, how do i check to see if my X25-M 80GB G2 is TRIM capable and has the lastest firmware? I tried using the Intel firmware updating software but it says that my SSD cannot be found.

The G2 is TRIM capable. If the firmware updating software is saying your SSD can't be found, ensure that in the BIOS that your drive controller is set to 'IDE mode' or 'ACHI off' or 'max compatibility' When you make that change, ensure to set it back to whatever it originally was as you may run into Windows bootup issues.

OTOH I think the firmware is displayed in the Device Manager for the drive, under 'Details', look through the various properties. Otherwise you can run AS SSD, Crystal Disk Info or Intel's Toolbox.

You need ACHI for TRIM to work it will NOT work in IDE mode.

Umm, i got 1 SSD right now with 2 WD 640GB in RAID0. So i have it as RAID settings, not ACHI, does that work?

Trim works fine with IDE mode as long as you are using Microsoft's driver. The main benefit of AHCI mode is NCQ and hot swapping.

As for the RAID'd SSDs. No trim will not work when they are in a RAID yet as no current controller drivers (that I'm aware of) support trim passthrough to SSD's setup as a RAID.
