check disk on a raid0 dual HD

For some reason check disk is starting every time at boot up, due to:
"one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency"
it gets to the same block at about 3% then states that it is unreadable. then every block after that is also unreadable. I let it do this overnight once and in the am it was still labeling them unreadable.

When I bypass the check disc the system seems to run fine. Is it something with check disk not being able to recognize due to the raid0 or could one of the drives have failed?

Anyone run into this before, it seems to pop up a bit on google search always occuring at 3%.
