I was curious about whether or not people here consider taking the SAT test not when in Highschool like most would, but much later in life.

I think the math would be more difficult if you take it late in life

I think if you're of a certain age, they make you take a different test.

why?

Most people forget all the math they learned oh so many years ago if they don't use it.

So I think this proves that you're in highschool. It doesn't mean you're a teenager, but you defiantly are in highschool

Yep. I can tell you right now that if I was asked to take the SAT's math section, I'd probably flat-out fail... and high school was only ~3 years ago for me.

SAT math isn't too difficult. It's more tricky than it is flat out math. It's reasoning and finding shortcuts. Even if you forgot HS math you would be fine. Forgetting HS math for your GREs might be more of a problem. However, the SAT is all about practice and how you can get to a quick way to the answer without doing things hte long way...

I think it's even harder for older folks. You forget a lot of shit when it's not used daily, as it would be in classes.

Nice, try.. hahahaha

Also, my question would actually suggest that I'm much further in life than in Highschool, that possibly I didn't take the SAT or someone I know didn't take the SAT but is considering it so that they can brag about their score... Wait, I just reread your post, are you serious? You really believe there are people whom are still in Highschool but aren't teenagers? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! Taking one or two classes in a Highschool classroom wouldn't suggest that person is in Highschool and going to continuation school is wayy different from Highschool for a variety of reasons (none of which are good either).

as you age, you become much more specialized in one certain demographic, letting your other bits of knowledge fall by the wayside and keeping up with what is special to you...

HA, GRE math is stupidly easy. The subject matter it covers is even less than the SAT; look it up if you don't believe me. The GRE verbal on the other hand is ridiculous.

Anyway I wouldn't consider it cheating to take the SAT later on. It's not like you're going to magically get better at the stuff that's on the SAT. If anything I've probably forgotten a bunch of the vocabulary.

But isn't studying and all that so much easier when you're older than when you're younger?

SAT math is pretty easy, and you'd be surprised how well it would come back to you, even years after high school.

Back in 96, before they changed to the current version of the SAT's, I was considering quitting my job and going back to school full time, to get an engineering degree. I thought about how I had never been satisfied with my SAT scores from high school, so looked into re-taking the test. Showed up at the local high school one Saturday morning, sat in a classroom with a bunch of 16 and 17 year olds (who were sweating bullets.....boy, did I remember that part!!), and took the exam.

I was 33 years old when I did that (turned 34 six months later), and I can tell you that it wasn't very bad at all. At that age, I sort of blended in, showing up at the high school to take the exam, since there were so many parents there dropping off their kids. In the classroom, taking the exam, my added age & experience gave me a comfort level the kids didn't have (especially since I figured that if I bombed it, I always had my old scores to fall back on). And the fact that I'd read about a thousand books in the intervening years made the verbal portion of the exam MUCH easier!

My old scores, from when I was in high school (probably ~16 years old)
Math 630 Verbal 490

My scores from later on in life (33.5 years old)
Math 720 Verbal 690

So I saw a 30 point rise in my math score, but a 200 point rise in my verbal score! :D

Is it cheating? Hell no! Not unless you got an advanced copy of the test, and knew the answers. Is it easier? From my own experiences, I'd have to say yes.

Isn't the OP the guy who had a thread about a "fifteen year old friend" a while back?

That puts him squarely in high school at best...:p

It's not your day anymore. SAT doesn't stand for anything. It is actually called the SAT Reasoning Test.

I'd also argue that NFL football and NBA basketball are acceptable since they denote the league.
