Cheapo PSU for overclocking?

I'm interested in a cheap PSU for my new setup. (Feel free to comment on that, too.)

-Allendale dual-core 1.6ghz CPU, or whatever else I can get cheap through the F/S/T forum

-A Gigabyte GA-945P-S3, or whatever other cheap motherboard I can get from the F/S/T forum

-2GB of DDR800, hopefully capable of being overclocked slightly

-A 7800GT with an NV Silencer heatsink.

I'll likely get a Freezer 7 Pro for the heatsink. They're supposed to be excellent, and having used other Arctic Cooling products before, I think they're pretty nifty.

Anywho, I'm going to need a power supply. I can do sleeving myself (if necessary), so all I need is something with decent power outputs - no modular silliness. Anyone have any reccomendations?

Either of the FSP 400w models from newegg would do well, and they have a great deal on a 500w antec neo if you're willing to play the rebate game...

Rebates...baad.

FSP sounds nice, though. I might be able to snag one of those used on the F/S/T forum.

That, or maybe I'll get a 600 watt power supply from some hulking quad-processor Pentium Pro monster, and re-wire it for ATX.

I recently (2 weeks ago) bought a FSP (Fortron Source) FX700-GLN for only $109 after rebates to stick in an OC rig replacing a failed Enermax Noisetaker II EG495P-VE.

Pretty cheap for an excellent 700 Watt psu. QUiet too, and power rails are rock steady.

Is that in the realm of your idea of "cheap?"

So the moral is, shop hard, and even while seeking a price bargain, still insist on a high quality psu.

You can sometimes get Antec Basiq or Earthwatts series of PSUs for pretty cheap. Basiq is made by Fortron and Earthwatts is made by Seasonic. Recently CompUSA :Q had the Earthwatts for really cheap with no rebates. 380W was only $35, and that one is powerful (and of sufficient quality) to run just about any single GPU setup. One member at Jonnyguru forums ran his (IIRC) overclocked C2D system with an 8800GTS on the Earthwatts 380W with no problems.

I've had good dealing with Xcilio PSUs, they're actually made with the same parts PC power/cooling's PSUs are.

Cheap too
