Cheapish network PC's

Hey all,

I'm doing a wireless network in my place in Melbourne, and I'm trying to decide what systems I want to put on it (my other PCs stay in WA). I want to have 3 or 4 systems (plus a server), and want at least one of them to be a laptop. I only want to spend about $1200US each, and I'd like LCD's on the desktops. Can someone gimme some ideas.

Cheers,
Chris

Well, a 15" LCD monitor is going for about $300 USD these days. That leaves $900 for everything else. I will assume you already have an OS to load (nobody flame me for saying this...we ALL do it! 😛😛😛) on each system, so that saves about $100 on each box.

Will they be workstations or gaming rigs or a little of each? You can get (i'll go AMD here because that is what I'm familiar with)

1. Midtower case/300w ps $60
2. Decent mobo $80
3. 1GHz TBird (266FSB) $100
4. 256mb PC2100 $45
5. GF2 GTS Pro 64mb $130
6. 40GB Maxtor DM+ HD $120
7. SBlive soundcard $20
8. Decent 40x CDR $40
9. Floppy (gotta have it) $15
10. Keyboard and mouse $30
GRAND TOTAL $645 for the system, + $300 for the LCD monitor = 945 for the whole thing.

Still substantially below what you want to pay for each rig. Good luck and please let us know what you wind up getting and how much you forked out. 🙂
