Cheapie gearvr alternatives?

I've seen a ton of cheapie vr headsets that look like supped up google cardboard - any of these decent? I doubt vr is something I'll use more than twice before getting bored of, so I don't really want to spend $100, but I'd still like to try it. Suggestions?

If you just want to try it, try it at Best Buy. Me, I'll be buying a GearVR and modding it to fit my Note 4.

At this point I would wait for Daydream certified phones and headsets to come out before spending money on any kind of mobile VR.

Received the VR Box 2 today. I use it with my reserve smartphone, the Alcatel Idol 3 5,5". Works good. At the price of €20. (about 21-25 US$), it's certainly a good buy.
Good to experience the world of VR and 3D. Can also be used for AR (augmented reality).

I'd say the best 'cardboard' viewer right now is the bobo vr z4. Good lenses, good FOV. The vr box someone else mentions is really meant more as a movie viewer, its FOV is pretty poor.

VR porn is pretty impressive if nothing else.

awesome, appreciate the feedback! Might get one if my wife's jealous of the gear vr, though the though of us both watching netfilx vr while drooling in a dark living room is super depressing... hmmm..

Enjoy your Gear. I also bought de VR Box 2, because it's one of the few you can use wearing prescription glasses.

any regrets? I'll have to get another set, I know my wife's going to be jealous.

We wear glasses too, and the gear is supposed to be a snug fit

You can use the Gear with prescription glasses, without problem.
To me it's not an option, as I don't have a Samsung smartphone.
