Cheapest way to get wireless to 360?

Yes. Get a wireless bridge. Some wireless routers can function as a wireless bridge (Linksys WRT54G can with DD-WRT firmware)

That's what I've done with a WRT54G.

Yep, I setup a wireless bridge using a WRT54G with DD-WRT Micro three days ago, he released RC5 the day after I set it up 🙁

Anyways, Radioshack has the WR54G for $35, get it and flash it, it works great for this!

For a breakdown between the different revisions: here, get a pre rev 8 if you can (the ones with serial numbers not starting with CDFA, for the rev 8s do not have detachable (upgradeable) antennas and are bound to the device). I scored a rev 5 yesterday to replace the one that I gave to a family member who needed a wireless repeater.

The Rev 4.0s and before are not gimped (have the full amount of memory) and thus you do not have to use the DD-WRT Micro firmware (you can use the full one on the 4.0 and before), but the micro works great for repeaters (I used a rev 8.0 and a rev 6.0 to do it).

Flash instructions:

Here are the instructions that you need to turn it into a repeater:

I think it has it built in the default firmware, but default fw sucks. Definitely upgrade. I have the same router with DDWRT and it's really stable acting as my wireless bridge for my 360. I love it.

To be clear, you need a wireless router AND a wireless bridge. The wireless bridge essentially acts as a client. Your laptop would need to connect to your wireless router just like your wireless bridge would (wirelessly of course). A bridge simply connects two segments of a network. So it goes like this:
360 -> Bridge -> Air -> Router -> Modem

And of course you can connect other devices to the Ethernet ports on the bridge.

I am curious about this also. Does the 360 have a built in antenna? My wireless router is 5 ft from my 360

Just connect it with a cable... If you don't have any free Ethernet ports on your router, you'll need a Ethernet switch.

The DD-WRT should work fine for PCs, gaming devices, TiVos, and any other device that uses standard wireless specifications. Like I said, the WRT54G is only $35 at radio shack and you can slap the DD-WRT micro firmware on it to turn it into a bridge, while it might work with other firmwares, I would suggest using two routers that have DD-WRT firmware of the same revision (of DD-WRT) on them. Checkout the instructions on how to turn a router with DD-WRT into a bridge that is linked above.

The guy makes DD-WRT firmware for the buffalo routers as well🙂

The wireless Xbox 1 adapter works. The 360 recognizes it and sets it up for you. I got one used off of ebay for $35.

I just did a quick search for some information on this, one site said that you had to set it up on an original Xbox before you could hook it up to a 360. Is that old/incorrect information?

I'm interested in a simple solution for my brother. If I needed wireless for my 360, I'd do the router->bridge trick with confidence because if something needs to be adjusted in 2 days after Christmas, I'll be able to do it. But for him three states away, I'd like something as simple as possible.

I got a WRT54G, flashed it with a DD-WRT version, and created a Wireless Bridge to my other unit. There's guides on DD-WRT's forum site, great help there. Works great too!

I'm trying to look the for the best deal on DD-WRT router/bridge.

Anyone tried Belkin F5D7230-4 Wireless-G Cable/DSL Router 54Mbps ?

bring it close to a wireless PC and use a crossover cable ($15 or a lot cheaper!) and share the connection!

Use the original xbox wireless adapter, works like a charm.

I asked this earlier but haven't gotten a response, yet. Would you happen to know? -
