Cheapest way to get into WoW? And refer-a-friend question.

So I have an old, inactive WoW account with Burning Crusade. My girlfriend and I might want to start playing together, but she doesn't have an account. We don't need Cataclysm right this moment. Lich King would be nice, but not absolutely necessary to start off with.

The cheapest option I can find is to get her the Battle Chest ($20 for vanilla + BC) which comes with one free month for her. I can do the Refer-A-Friend thing and we'd be linked, but I don't get a free month from that anymore. Oh well.

Lich King is $20 at GameStop. I can't seem to find a better deal elsewhere.

Finally - if I were to buy her the physical boxed game, would Refer-A-Friend still work? Could she just start the trial account, then activate the full version using the cd keys?

Do they have mciro-transactions in this game yet for those of us with more money than time?

You'll get a free month from Recruit-A-Friend after your girlfriend pays for her first month. By "first month" I mean the first month after the free month that comes with the base game.

To answer your last question, yes, you can recruit her and then activate to full version with the battle chest.
