Cheapest way to get Half-Life 2 + CS:S?

Heh, so I left pc gaming for a while, preferring to buy first a dell & then mac laptop for the past few years. So, I bought a $284 shipped refurb dell inspiron desktop the other day to use Ubuntu & also some pc gaming. I threw in a $89 7600 GT & some ram, & plan to play through some of the games I missed. I was a fan of Half-Life & counter-strike, so I want to start with their next generations.

It looks like they're packaged separately online, but if you get Half-life 2 in store will it include CS:S? The Orange Box won't include CS:S, right? It's quite a shock for me to see them not packaged together on steam, except for that huge Source pack. Heh, I guess that dates me 😱
 
I would just get CS:S by itself($20 on steam) or maybe with garry's mod($25 on steam) if you like that sort of thing. Then wait till all the orange box buyers start giving away their extra copies of HL2 and HL2:EP1. Some people say they are going to sell their extra copies, but I think there's going be so many extra copies floating around, you'll probably be able to snag one or both for free.

Good idea, thanks. Where do you think the best place is to get the HL2 & HL2EP1 copies? I read that Valve frowned on this sort of thing, or something.
 
I remember an article where after they canceled the Black Box (EP2+TF2+Portal), Valve said that Orange Box will ship with two serial keys - one for HL2+EP1 and the other for the 'new'pack - which users could give away (read sell). Is this still correct?
 
Monty and Presolve, I've contacted you both on steam.

The 'gift' copy is full, entirely working, copies of Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One.

I cannot gift them to you until Episode 2 is released, which I believe will be around October 9th. I'd ask that no one else contact me, since Monty and Presolve have both expressed interest in the gifts.
