I have a relatively early model HDTV that does not have DVI or HDMI inputs. It has component inputs, & can accept 480i/480p/1080i (no 720P). I have corrected it via service menu to less than 5% overscan in all modes, & can finetune it further so I don't really need driver support for overscan correction.
My current hardware I have for a HTPC is a Barton 2800+, 1 GB, & a Ti4600 AGP. I've been bidding on a VGA => Component transcoder but it's pushing $60 - At that point I'm probably better off buying a different video card & selling the Ti4600.
What's the cheapest way to get 1080i right now? I don't need a particularly fast video card, this box will primarily be used as a 1080i DVD player, & for recording/playback of HDTV. Maybe a little gaming but I'm not much of a gamer.
Is a transcoder the way to go or is a card with built in 1080i support better?
