Cheapest way to get a medical prescription?

TripleAAA

Golden Member
I want to get a prescription for a particular drug (no, nothing abusive), but I don't have insurance. The drug costs about $250 for a three-month generic supply.

Just wondering if there is a cheaper way than going through a doctor.

And no...I'm not going to buy drugs from Mexico or do something illegal. Helpful posts would be appreciated. Thanks

and the generic is that expensive? wow.

Actually I've looked on the Canadian websites, but they also require prescriptions from a doctor.

Anyone know about this prescription card thing?

Unless you want to get it illegally, there's no way you can get a prescription medication without a prescription.

No thats the whole point of my post. I want to go about this as cheaply as I can. Might just have to give a doctor a call and see what it would cost me for a simple doctor visit, but I know its gonna be more than I want it to be.

the only way you are going to obtain these drugs then is illegally.

i'm not giving advice on that.

what drug is it? Some drugs that require rx in the US do not require rx in Canada. In those situations, the Canadian pharmacies will ship to the US.

Its Lamisil tablets (Terbinafine) and every Canadian site I've gone to requires a prescription. Looks like I'm gonna have to see the doctor. $$$

are you sure the generic is that expensive?

you might find a doc can hook you up with something that is cheaper.

Well it depends, but everything I've researched says I need to take it for at least 3 months and actually I was wrong, its around $160. Still expensive if you figure in the cost of a doctor...probably cost me around $300 or more for everything. Doctor might require me to get a bloodtest which I honestly don't think I need.

Aren't there cheaper alternatives to Lamisil?

There's generic, but there is nothing else in a tablet form that I'm aware of. I'm taking it for toenail fungus, not athletes foot. (yes I clean my feet all the time) I've tried just about all the other remedies.

Call around and explain your situation at your local clinics and find a doctor that would give you 3 month prescription instead of the regular monthly.

If you don't make much money (like being a student), contact the drug manufacturer. You can qualify for free medication.

My heart meds alone cost over $125/mon for just one heart med/water pill/potassium supplements. If I take three (when the BP soars), that's closer to $300/mon. If it wasn't for disability insurance, would no way be able to afford it without relief.
