Hi,

What do you think would be the cheapest way to get an AMD 2500 - 2600+ , Mobile Radeon 9600, Hard Drive, etc? Would it be cheaper BUILDING one or BUYING one?

I've heard that BUILDING laptops was a hassle. Do you guys know any good places to buy Laptops?

hpshopping.com

dell.com

Or check our your local Circuit City, Best Buy, or Fry's.

Building laptops is a PITA.

Call me oldfashioned, but even if 2/2 of my desktop rigs are AMD, I really wouldn't use AMD in a notebook, short of a desktop replacement.

i agree, 5 AMD based computer in my home, however i still won't buy an AMD laptop unless the price was amazing.

i'm interested in seeing how cool the new 90nm AMD64s run now though.

XP is teh debbil

If you're buying a cheap laptop, many of the intel-based ones use a desktop P4 or celeron processor, so a mobile athlon XP is at least as good of a choice, an a64 processor could be better.

. . . Mobile Radeon 9600 . . .

Unfortunately this raises the cost way up, you can find basic laptops with slow motherboard graphics for $700, but for a mobile 9600 expect to spend at least $1,000

If this is for lan parties or to stay in a dorm room, a cube desktop PC (Shuttle, Asus Aria, etc.) would be cheaper and would let you put in a better graphics card like a 9800 Pro.

If somehow you are tempted to buy something from Bubba and Leroy down behind the pool hall look out for BIOS passwords.
