ok, since i can't post this in the graphics card board..

ERROR: Sorry, you do not have permissions to access the requested object.

when i try to access that forum.

anyway...

I want to be able to play all the brand new games, but they don't have to be at maximum quality. just so i can play them and they don't look "bad". what would you recommend the cheapest video card so I can play these games, and play them well (dont want any slowdown, but don't need the best graphics in the world)

thanks in advance

8600GT 512MB and a slight overclock will play my newish games not maxed out, but decent, nice and smooth, just not as crazy resolutions... it can run Doom 3 maxed out at 1600x1200 if that does you any good.

thanks a lot bud. that one looks really cheap. and no i don't need to run it at insane resolutions. i'm just running a normal 1024x768. any other ideas?

edit: i never blocked the forum or anything. dunno why it's not letting me in

I'll assume you have a PCIe slot? I'd look at one of the 4830 deals or a 4770 new for 99. I'd also look into upgrading the CPU. The Celeron is a really weak chip and will hold you back. Odds are, if the motherboard supports it, you could get a cheap CPU upgrade as well.

That celeron is going to be a huge bottleneck. Get at least a P4 but even the dual or quad cores have gone quite down in price so I'd just go with that.

not possible. this computer was given to me.

do you think the 4830 would work with the celeron?

You realize there are Core based Celerons, right?

I would make sure your system supports PCI-e before putting money into a card. And if the system is so old, it might not support the 6pin cpi-e power, although the lower end video cards seldom need it.

How much ram is in it?

He said NEW games not 5 year old games... I had an 8600GT over a year ago, it was underpowered then and it's only more underpowered now. OP do yourself a huge favor and invest in a capable card.

edit: you must have PCI-E slot to upgrade to a 4830.

you'll probably need a psu upgrade for anything more than a 4670 or 9500GT. 4830 will be pushing it.
